Equine Feeding Guide

Created to provide horses and ponies with all the nutritional requirements necessary to provide health, condition and stamina at three levels of workload.

Before You Start

When using this guide, it’s important to understand that the quality of grazing, hay and haylage, which makes up the bulk of the diet, may vary. As such, personal judgement should always be used when feeding.

Work Categories

Light Work - Created for horses and ponies at rest or in light work. Exercise Level: 0 - 0.75 hour per day.

Medium Work - Created for horses and ponies in medium work. Exercise Level: 0.75 to 1.5 hour per day.

Hard Work - Created for horses and ponies in hard work. Exercise Level: 1 .5 or more hours per day.

This guide has been split into various size ranges, each with 3 corresponding work categories; Light Work, Medium Work and Hard Work.  

Simply select the size and workload of your horse or pony and read across for a guide to the feeding levels of each product we recommend. However, it’s important to understand that the quality of grazing, hay and haylage, which makes up the bulk of the diet, may vary. As such, personal judgement should always be used when feeding.

What Else Should I Feed to My Horse or Pony?

In addition to the GWF Nutrition products outlined below, we would always recommend that your horse or pony receives an adequate supply of forages in the form of:

  • Ad-lib Grazing
  • Ad-lib Hay
  • Ad-lib Haylage

Feeding Guide and Daily Cost Breakdown

  1. Introduce the recommended daily quantity of hard feed over a period of 4 days.
  2. Split the total daily quantity by the number of daily feeds.
  3. Simply mix with your horse or pony's normal feed.
  4. Depending on the workload, please ensure the horse or pony receives adequate levels of forages and energy dense hard feeds.

Light Work - Feed: 250gm of Equilibra + 375gm of Fibregest + 500gm of Alfalfa Soya Oil

Medium Work - Feed: 250gm of Equilibra + 500gm of Fibregest + 500gm of Alfalfa Soya Oil + 250gm of Tiger Oats

Hard Work - Feed: 250gm of Equilibra + 500gm of Fibregest + 500gm of Alfalfa Soya Oil + 500gm of Tiger Oats

13 - 14 Hands High

Light Work - Feed: 350gm of Equilibra + 500gm of Fibregest + 750gm of Alfalfa Soya Oil

Medium Work - Feed: 350gm of Equilibra + 500gm of Fibregest + 750gm of Alfalfa Soya Oil + 375gm of Tiger Oats

Hard Work - Feed: 350gm of Equilibra + 500gm of Fibregest + 750gm of Alfalfa Soya Oil + 750gm of Tiger Oats

15 - 16 Hands High

Light Work - Feed: 500gm of Equilibra + 500gm of Fibregest + 1kg of Alfalfa Soya Oil

Medium Work - Feed: 500gm of Equilibra + 500gm of Fibregest + 1kg of Alfalfa Soya Oil + 500gm of Tiger Oats

Hard Work - Feed: 500gm of Equilibra + 750gm of Fibregest + 1kg of Alfalfa Soya Oil + 1.25kg of Tiger Oats

Light Work - Feed: 600gm of Equilibra + 750gm of Fibregest + 1.5kg of Alfalfa Soya Oil
